Common composite decking

PVC decking

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the world’s most commonly used thermoplastic polymers. Since its introduction, it has been most commonly used in the construction industry, followed by frequent applications in signage, medical and apparel fibers.

For the construction industry, PVC decking is easy to move and relatively inexpensive. It also has the advantages of a plastic composite product. It has excellent environmental adaptability, and strong water and mildew resistance.

Although PVC decking has many advantages. But it also has some disadvantages that prevent it from being widely used for outdoor decking. PVC has poor thermal stability, so additives that stabilize the material at higher temperatures are often added to the material during the manufacturing process. In addition to this, PVC materials emit toxic fumes when they melt or catch fire. It is very harmful to people, which is one of the reasons why outdoor PVC decking is less used.

Composite decking boards

Composite decking is not the same as plastic flooring. It is made of a mix of recyclable plastic and wood fiber. In many instances, the majority of plastic used is derived from recycled materials. Plastic flooring is simply plastic, though it can contain a variety of additives to resist sun damage, scratches, and elements.
On the other hand, composite wood decking is closer to natural wood than PVC decking, which has a distinct plastic feel. It can provide you with a rich deck surface and color.

Other applications exist for composite decking besides decking. Including decorative panels, outdoor furniture, wall panels, and fencing.

Composite decking is exceptionally durable. Because it does not absorb water. It does not rot because it contains no organic materials. Composite wood decking does not require sanding and re-staining, unlike wood decking. This means that once composite decking has been installed. You can enjoy the convenience of composite deck flooring without investing a significant amount of time in its upkeep.

Capped composite decking

Capped composite decking is equipped with four-sided capping technology for enhanced scratch resistance. In addition to excellent resistance to sunlight, stains, mold, and bacteria. Excellent resistance to UV rays, stains, mold, and bacteria.

Due to a proprietary coating formula, composite decking can be capped. And it does not have an unwelcome plastic feel. Moreover, the unique coating technology provides an enhanced contact experience. With anti-static properties, a plush texture, and low thermal conductivity.

Advantages and disadvantages of composite decking

Benefits of composite deck planks

  • Does not contain chemical treatments
  • Does not fracture
  • Against insects
  • hundred percent recyclable

Cons of composite deck boards

  • Can look artificial
  • Uniform texturing
  • Cannot stain or paint (even if you want to)

Installation

Similar to wood, composite decking can be cut and drilled. No special equipment is required. In addition, it can be attached to the keel with screws, similar to traditional wood decking. Consequently, it is possible to install composite decking by yourself. Numerous varieties of composite decking feature concealed fasteners. This type of fastener permits the fasteners to be concealed beneath the deck. Leaving the floor’s surface free of screw heads. It prevents screws and other accessories from detracting from the deck’s overall aesthetic.

In addition, allow space for the composite deck to expand. Read the manufacturer’s installation instructions carefully prior to installation.

Cost of composite decking boards

Composite wood decking is more expensive than wood decking. Since composite decking requires significantly less maintenance than wood decking. And has greater longevity. Consequently, composite decking is the better choice in the long run.

To compare the costs of wood decking with precision. Consider the cost of wood decking that requires periodic maintenance. Typically, wood decking must be restained or sealed every two to three years. Materials are expensive, as are labor and time if you do it yourself.
